Stars over lake Baikal
Despite the severe -30°C frost, Baikal only began to freeze over north of Olkhon in the second half of January. Thanks to the clear skies and an almost complete absence of powerful light sources, it became possible to see a vast number of stars—an opportunity unavailable in urban light pollution—with the Milky Way being particularly breathtaking.
Spirit Island
Early autumn in the Canadian Rockies. The days are still warm, but early mornings often bring frost, and snow already covers the mountain slopes.Spirit Island is a tiny island on Maligne Lake. You can only get here by water—either on a small cruise boat or by canoe, if you don't mind the prospect of paddling for 20 kilometers.I was lucky enough to be here right after sunrise, when the fog hadn't yet cleared, and everything around was bathed in soft, morning autumn light.

Snowstorm
Peeking out the window, I realized the morning didn’t look promising. A fierce blizzard hid everything from sight. On the other hand, this was exactly what brought me back to Lake Baikal once again.
Morning in a Birch Grove
The first signs of spring in the Moscow region. The fog creates an atmosphere of peace and mystery, transforming the grove into a magical and enchanting landscape.
A Misty Day
Weather on the Pacific coast is fickle; the sun that was just shining can vanish into the fog, followed by days of rain. With the next high tide, the water floods the old fallen trees.
The Twilight of the Year
One of those rare sunny days in late autumn, when nature seems to have completely stood still, waiting for winter.
About
Sergey Pesterev was born in Moscow region of Russia, the place where he grew up and still lives. He took his first steps in the dark room in the 1990s, and from the start he focused his attention on landscape photography. He graduated in IT Engineering from the National Research University of Electronic Technology in 2004. However, he considers photography to be his vocation. He loves to travel and tries to convey through photography the atmosphere of the places where he manages to visit. He is a member of the Russian Union of Art Photographers and was awarded the “Excellence FIAP” distinction in 2017. He became the winner of “Wiki loves Earth 2017” and a finalist of the Hasselblad Masters 2018.
