Stars over Lake Baikal

Baikal

From the series “Breath of Ice”, No. 21

Despite the severe -30°C frost, Baikal only began to freeze over north of Olkhon in the second half of January. Thanks to the clear skies and an almost complete absence of powerful light sources, it became possible to see a vast number of stars—an opportunity unavailable in urban light pollution—with the Milky Way being particularly breathtaking.

Location: Uzury, Olkhon Island, Lake Baikal.
